Why Prospering Christian

Prosperity is defined as the condition of being successful or thriving. The beautiful thing about this definition is that it does not dictate the circumstances one may be experiencing amidst thriving or success. One can therefore thrive amidst hardship or thrive amidst an abundance of ease. Prospering then is possible no matter the conditions of our lives. Always, then, ought we be prospering Christians.

‘Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord , and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.’

Psalm 1:1-3 ESV

The Christian life is promised to be that of a tree planted by the rivers of water who bears fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither—and whatever they do prospers. Christians are to have a constant source of water by the infilling of the Holy Spirit, rivers of living water inside them that pour out through our participation in life and community. Even if things look bleak, there’s a river of life that the Christian can drink from, enabling them to prosper even in the worst conditions.

The Christian is meant to live in this world but not be a part of it. Worldly perspectives have infiltrated the mind of the Christian life that have served to obstruct the purposes of God in the lives of Christians affected by such perspectives. In order to be successful one must be affluent in money. One must climb the corporate ladder and look after their own to make it to the top. Worldly motives behind actions such as doing favors to get something out of someone end up pervading the church. Far more destructive behaviors abound and it ought not be so.
